John Atkinson (Service Store) Ltd, 78 The Moor, a department store founded in 1941. John Banner Ltd, a department store founded in 1873, moved to Attercliffe road in 1894 and rebuilt in 1934, remembered as the first building in Sheffield to install wooden escalators; the business closed in 1980. ‘King Cole & Co’, the business formerly trading at 336 Main road under the proprietorship of Charles Francis Stamp of Totley, declared bankrupt October 1986.
