East and West Africa 1887-1900, 1 clasp, Witu 1890 (F. C. Mills, Stoker, H.M.S. Kingfisher.) light contact marks, otherwise good very fine £200-£260

Frederick Charles Miller was born at Southsea, Hampshire, on 4 November 1866, and joined the Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class on 16 April 1885. Advanced to Stoker on 1 January 1886, he served aboard Kingfisher from 22 February 1888 to 5 August 1891, including the operations against the Sultan of Witu in October 1890. He was further advanced to Leading Stoker 2nd Class in January 1896; Leading Stoker 1st Class, February 1897; and to Chief Stoker in March 1903. He was Shore Pensioned on 21 June 1907, and joined the Royal Fleet Reserve on the following day. Recalled for service on 2 August 1914, he served as Chief Stoker in shore-based establishments until 22 August 1919, having received his L.S. & G.C. medal on 10 April 1919.
