Harry Cripps was the son of Mr and Mrs W. Cripps of 51 Ewart Street, Brighton. He initially served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment in the French theatre of war from 12 September 1914. Cripps subsequently transferred to the 6th Divisional Signal Company, Royal Engineers and was killed in action on the Western Front, 2 December 1917. Sapper Cripps is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France.
