Afghanistan 1878-80, no clasp (1871 Pte. J. [sic] Darcy. 2/9th. Foot.) edge bruising, otherwise good very fine £70-£90

Owen Darcy was born in Dundalk, Co. Louth, and attested for the 31st Brigade at Curragh Camp on 14 August 1878, having previously served in the Militia. Posted to the 9th (Norfolk) Regiment of Foot, he served with the 2nd Battalion in India from 11 December 1879, and saw action in Afghanistan during the 2nd Afghan War. He returned home on 29 November 1884, and transferred to the Army Reserve on 1 December of that year. He was discharged on 13 August 1890, after 12 years’ service.
