Frank Mathews was born in Chelsea, London, and attested for the Royal Berkshire Regiment at Newbury, Berkshire. He served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 13 August 1914, and was killed in action on 26 March 1918. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
