James McIntosh was born at Boleskine, Inverness, and enlisted into the 42nd Foot at the age of 18 for 7 years. He was ‘severely wounded by a musket ball in his left thigh at the Battle of Toulouse’ in April 1814. He was discharged on 31 October 1817, having served 7 years 144 days.
