7th A Fusilier Officer Edwardian Portrait Miniature and Humorous Rifle Volunteer Watercolour and Guache Sketch, the first possibly painted on ivory depicts head and shoulder portrait of a young officer wearing his full dress scarlet tunic with blue facings and silver grenade collar badges contained in a base metal oval glazed frame; the second 21.5 x 15 cms depicts two ranks of Rifle Volunteer soldiers c. 1860 being addressed by a Regular Army Drill Sergeant, behind him are four attractive young ladies, the handwritten period caption reads “The ladies come out to see the 38th Othersex Volunteers drill”, “Sargeant (appealingly) Now then gentlemen, once more, eyes front, and pray Gentlemen, pray don’t stare about you as if you were in Church”, now contained in a glazed wooden frame, good condition (2) £120-160
