George Smith was born in Southwold, Suffolk, and attested for the Royal Artillery at the town of his birth, in October 1898. He served with ‘P’ Battery, Royal Horse Artillery during the Second Boer War, and died of Enteric Fever at Klerksdorp, 13 April 1902.
