Three: Warrant Officer Constable S. H. Thompson, South African Navy, late Royal Navy

Samuel Henry Thompson was born in Belfast on 28 June 1929, and joined the Royal Navy on 31 October 1945. He served as a Telegraphist, and later Leading Telegraphist, until 2 April 1955, when he was released by purchase. He then served in the Royal Naval Dockyard Police as a Constable at Simonstown, South Africa, until 31 March 1957. He enlisted in the South African Navy as 05201603.E Leading Constable (rated as Leading Seaman) South African Navy Dockyard Police on 1 April 1957, when the Simonstown Dockyard reverted to the South African Government, and served there until 31 May 1960. He served in S.A.N. Coastal command until 20 November 1962, and in the same command as Petty Officer Constable until 30 November 1969; Chief Petty Officer Constable Naval Command 1 November 1969; W.O.2 Constable, 1 October 1972; W.O.I Constable, 1 January 1976. Served at Naval Base, Simonstown as Command Security Officer from July 1976 until at least 15 October 1977. He was awarded the P.F. G.S.M. (No. 1173) in 1969 and the S.A.D.F. G.S.M. (No. 1628) in 1976. Warrant Officer Thompson retired on 30 June 1982, having acquired South African citizenship in August 1961. Sold with copied record of service.
