H.M.S. Menestheus, an Admiralty-requisitioned merchantman, was fitted out for service as an auxiliary minelayer and initially served during the Second War as part of the 1st Minelaying Squadron based at Kyle of Lochalsh. When minelaying was completed in October 1943, she was converted for use as an amenity ship in the Pacific.
