China 1857-60, no clasp (R. Shaddick, Cooper, H.M.S. Encounter) naming officially impressed in a later style, very fine

Richard Shaddick was born in Bristol in 1830 and joined the service aboard ENCOUNTER as a Cooper on 19 January 1853. Not unlike other tradesmen joining the Navy at a later age than seamen, one commission was enough and he was discharged to shore in February 1858. He received his late issue China medal on 28 August 1894.
