Joseph Hubert Hooper was born in Hallow, Worcestershire and enlisted at Ebbw Vale, Monmouthshire. Serving with the 10th Battalion South Wales Borderers, he entered France as part of the 115th Brigade, 38th Division, on 4 December 1915. He was killed in action at Mametz Wood, battle of the Somme, 11 July 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
