Richard Ward, who was born in January 1874, served in the ranks of the 21st Lancers for a little under 20 years, in which period he was present as a Lance-Corporal in ‘C’ Troop in the famous charge at Omdurman in 1898; sold with copied photograph of the ‘Officers and N.C.Os of the regiment who took part in the charge at Omdurman on 2 September 1898’, Ward among them.

Appointed an Hon. Lieutenant (Q.M.) in February 1912, he entered the Indian theatre of war in September 1915, as a member of the Malakand Moveable Column. He appears to have been the last Quarter-Master of the regiment before amalgamation with the 17th Lancers in 1922; sold with copied research.
