France, Sévres Silhouette, Duchesse d’Angouleme, hard paste biscuit porcelain silhoutte portrait, circa 1820, modelled by Brachard. Repaired, very fine (£80-100)

Marie Therese Charlotte, Duchesse d’Angouleme (1778-1851), Niece of Charles X, she married his eldest son and became an integral part of the restoration monarchy following the defeat of Napoleon in 1815. Those close to her at court saw her great virtues: the bourgeoisie knew her only as “Madame Runcune” (Lady Resentment) as she displayed nothing but disdain and contempt for anything that recalled the revolution or the Empire
