Arthur Henry Penney was born in London on 24 January 1917. He enlisted into the Royal Army Ordnance Corps on 17 October 1940 and for two years served in the U.K. in 63 Section R.A.O.C. He was then posted to North Africa and served in the First Army in 1 Base Ordnance Department with 57 Infantry Brigade Company R.A.S.C. In July 1944 he moved to Italy and then returned to the U.K. still serving with 57 Inf Bde Coy R.A.S.C. and was discharged to the Reserves on 11 September 1946. On 16 April 1952 he re-enlisted into the Royal Artillery and joined 20th Field Regiment R.A. in Korea in March 1953. He served in Korea with that unit until November 1953 when the Regiment returned to Hong Kong. In November 1954 he transferred to the R.E.M.E. but continued to serve in the 20th Fd. Regt LAD. He remained with the Regt. on their return to Woolwich until August 1957 when he was posted to Tripoli, Libya to serve in 30 Coy R.A.S.C. LAD. During November 1960-August 1964 he served in B.A.O.R. with 125 and 35 Coy R.E.M.E. before being posted to Singapore in August 1967 to 221 Base Vehicle Workshop. Penney returned to B.A.O.R. to 4 Div H.Q. and Signal Regiment and was discharged at his own request on 18 September 1968 and went to live in Woking. With copied service notes.
