Private H. Butler, 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards, died of wounds probably suffered at the battle of Modder River, 28 November 1899, at Orange River on 7 December 1899. With copied roll extracts.

His son, Private George T. Butler, 1st Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 27 September 1914. He was later discharged. With copied m.i.c.
