Hyderabad 1843 (Danl. Ryan, 22nd Regt.) official engraved naming, fitted with replacement silver clip and straight bar suspension, light contact marks, otherwise very fine £800-1000

Approximately 159 medals with this reverse issued to the 22nd Foot.

Daniel Ryan was born in the Parish of Cahir, County Tipperary, and was attested there for the 22nd Regiment on 31 March 1828, aged eighteen. He served abroad in the East Indies for six years 164 days, and in the West Indies for eight years 133 days, being discharged as unfit for further service at Chatham on 11 October 1848. His discharge papers state that ‘his character is bad. He served in the campaign in the Scind under Major-General Sir C. J. Napier and was present at the battle of Hyderabad 24th March 1843 for which he has received a medal. He further served in the Southern Mahratta country 1844-45 under Major-General Delamotte including the siege and capture of Punella, Ponghur and Munahar and also the descent of the Elephant Rock.’ Sold with copied discharge papers.
