Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 1 clasp, Suakin 1885 (Platelayer. J. Howard.) pitting from star, otherwise nearly very fine £200-250
An employee of Messrs. Lucas & Aird, contracted to build a railway from Suakin, on the Red Sea, to Berber, near Khartoum, a distance of 200 miles. Only 20 miles of track were built, however, before the army withdrew. Several locomotives built specially for this contract were subsequently put to work on the Chattenden & Upnor Railway in Kent. Sold with a copy of his entry on the roll.
