Crimean War Interest a hoof from a cavalry horse named ‘Dandy’ now mounted as an inkwell in unmarked silver or silver plate, the lid with a three dimensional horse and engraved ‘Dandy B40. age 3 on joining the 4th R.I. Dragoon Guards 17th April 1854 Newbridge Ireland Destroyed on 24th August 1878 at York under authority of H.R.H. the F.M.C. in Chief in consequence of being the last horse that had joined for the Crimean Campaign’, the inkwell lacks glass liner, the horse’s tail fractured at some time in the past has been reasonably neatly repaired, otherwise good overall condition £250-350
