Four: Chief Technician N. S. Cole, Royal Air Force, awarded the A.O.C’s. Commendation for Aden 1958

Defence and War Medals, unnamed; General Service 1918-6, 2, 1 clasp, Arabian Peninsula (955515 Sgt., R.A.F.); Royal Air Force L.S. & G.C., E.II.R., 2nd issue (955515 Sgt., R.A.F.) mounted as worn, very fine (lot) £140-180

Norman Stanley Cole was born on 23 March 1918. Employed as a Garage Hand, and having previously served in R.A.F. during the Second World War, he enlisted into the Royal Air Force on 23 April 1946. Employed as a Motor Transport Fitter, he attained the rank of Chief Technician. Awarded the Air Officer Commanding’s Commendation for Aden in 1958. Discharged on 1 August 1968 due to the contraction of the service.

With R.A.F. Certificate of Service booklet which confirms the above medals and his Commendation; a letter of appreciation on the occasion of his retirement from Air Vice-Marshal J. H. Hunter-Tod, O.B.E., R.A.F., of Headquarters No. 24 Group, dated 1 August 1968, with associated envelope, addressed to Cole at 20 Greenfields Avenue, Bridgend, Glamorgan; a photograph of the recipient as a Leading Aircraftsman, c.1940/41; and a wall plaque of ‘[Headquarters] British Forces Aden’ (part of inscription lost), by Hunter & Smallpage, York, with label, ‘Presented by Stan Cole’.
