George I, undated and unsigned silver medallets, obverse bust of George I, bare-headed and armoured, to r., reverse crowned royal shield within garter, 25mm (MI 428/18). Cleaned, mostly extremely fine, one rather buckled (£150-200)
Almost nothing is known of these attractive Shilling-size medallets. They are of excellent workmanship and may have made by John Croker early in the reign of George I. Though their purpose cannot be established for certain they were probably intended as gaming counters.
