William Rylett, a Volunteer in the Royal Nottinghamshire Regiment of Militia, enlisted into the 85th Regiment, on 27 October 1852. In January 1856 he volunteered for the 90th Regiment. He served in India for a total of 9 years, 7 months, seeing service in the supression of the Indian Mutiny at the relief and capture of Lucknow. He was discharged at Dover on 12 June 1875 having claimed it on the termination of his second period of limited engagement. At the time of his discharge, in addition to his two medals, he was in possession of four good conduct badges.
