John Dalton served in the Boer War with the Oldham Corps of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. With the onset of the Great War he enlisted at Oldham for service in the R.A.M.C. As a Lance-Corporal he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 8 July 1915. He was killed in action, France/Flanders, 23 April 1917 and was buried in the Tilloy British Cemetery, Tilloy-les-Mofflaines.
