Memorial Plaque 1914-18 (2) (Richard Comerford; Edward Fairless) very fine (2) £70-90
Richard Comerford was born in Quebec, Co. Durham and enlisted at Birtley, Co. Durham. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry he was killed in action on 3 June 1917 and buried in the Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe, Pas de Calais. He was the son of Mr J. Comerford, of 18E Elizabeth Ville, Birtley.
Edward Fairless was born and lived in Westgate, Co. Durham and enlisted at Spennymoor, Co. Durham. Serving with the 18th Battalion Durham Light Infantry he was killed in action and buried in the St. Vaast Post Military Cemetery, Richebourg-L’Avoue, Pas de Calais. He was the son of Edward Fairless, of Westgate-in-Weardale, Co. Durham. Note: one other of this name on the CWGC list (in the R.N.V.R.); because of the source of the plaque, the vendor believes D.L.I. man to be more likely.
