Peter William Bissett was born in St. Thomas, North Dakota, U.S.A., on 29 June 1896. A Student, he enlisted into the 34th Battalion (Fort Garry Horse) in September 1914, but was serving with the 1st Battalion, Canadian Machine Gun Corps, when killed in action on 14 July 1916. An official report stated, ‘While on duty, this soldier was killed during the shelling of Poperinghe.’ He was buried in the Poperinghe New Military Cemetery, and was the son of Peter and Margaret Bissett, of Winnipeg; sold with copied service papers.
