George Ritchie came from Felling. Serving as a Private in the Durham Light Infantry he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 23 September 1915. As a Serjeant in the 12th Battalion D.L.I., serving in Italy, he was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field. He was subsequently promoted to a Warrant Officer Class 2. Later transferred to Class ‘Z’ Reserve. With copied research.
