Gunner Edgar William Downing, 9 Coast Regiment, R.A., died a prisoner-of-war of the Japanese on 12 September 1944, aged 36 years.
His name is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial. He was the son of Edgar and Eleanor Downing, of Dawes Heath, Essex and husband of Winifred A. C. Downing, of Rayleigh, Essex.
