Able Seaman Edward Joseph Kehoe, R.N., was killed in action, aged 27 years, when the cutter/escort Culver, ex- U.S.N. Mendota, was torpedoed and sunk in the East Atlantic by the German submarine U-105, on 31 January 1942. Eight officers and 118 ratings were killed. He was the son of Edward Joseph and Bridget Kehoe and husband of Matilda Kehoe, of Gateshead.

Medals to Kehoe with Admiralty condolence slip named to ‘Edward Joseff Kehoe’, in damaged medal forwarding box, addressed to ‘Mrs E. M. Kehoe, 98, Southey Street, Gateshead 8, Co. Durham’.

Able Seaman George Emmenson Chipperfield, R.N., died on 4 March 1943 whilst serving at
President III. His name is recorded on the Portsmouth Naval memorial. He was the husband of M. Chipperfield of Shiremoor, Northumberland.

Lance Serjeant Reginald Herberson, 7th Battalion Black Watch, was killed/died on 6 March 1943, aged 28 years. He was buried in the Sfax War Cemetery, Tunisia. He was the son of George and Anne Herberson, of Birtley, Co. Durham; stepson of Isobel Herberson of Birtley.
