A King’s Police Medal for Gallantry awarded to Troop Commander Sher Mahomed, Sind Police Rangers
King’s Police Medal, G.VI.R., 1st issue, for Gallantry (Sher Mahomed, Troop Commdr. No. 1, Sind Police Rangers) on ‘Gallantry’ ribbon, nearly extremely fine £600-700
K.P.M. London Gazette 18 February 1947.
Recommendation reads: ‘On the 9th October, 1946, during an action against a Hur outlaw and his associates who had barricaded themselves in a house, Sher Mahomed volunteered to try to recover a Sten gun and rifle from two men who had been killed. By crawling on his stomach he managed to get the rifle and drag one man’s body to cover. The attempt to reach the other dead man was stopped by point blank fire from the house. Eventually grenades were dropped into the interior of the house by Sher Mahomed through holes made in the roof. One of the gang was killed at once; one of the remaining two was overpowered and the other shot.’
