Wounded 1 July, 1916. The following report appeared in the Yorkshire Evening Post; ‘Pte William Ayrton who was at Messrs. Hotham and Whiting’s before the war, has a wound in the eye, and is at King George’s Hospital, London. He is a son of Mr. G. Ayrton of Gledhow Wood Avenue, Leeds 8.’
