John Shorthouse was born, lived and enlisted at Bishopbriggs, Lanarkshire. Serving with the 2nd Battalion King’s Own Scottish Borderers, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 21 September 1914. He was killed in action on 18 November 1914, aged 32 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of the late Andrew Shorthouse and husband of Elizabeth H. Shorthouse, of 122 Main Street, Bishopbriggs, Glasgow. With copied m.i.c. and casualty details.
