Thomas H. Mortimer was born at Landport, Hampshire, on 22 March 1831. Brought up as a blacksmith, he entered the Navy as an Able Seaman aboard H.M.S. Rodney on 20 August 1851, becoming Armourer in February 1853. He served as Armourer aboard the Rodney in the Crimea, and aboard the Esk in New Zealand. He received his L.S. & G.C. Medal on 9 June 1873, whilst serving as Armourer on board H.M.S. Excellent. Sold with copy service record.
