Henry Cottrell was born in Devonport, lived at Ulverston, Lancashire and enlisted at Derby. Serving in the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters, he was killed in action in Gallipoli on 9 August 1915. His name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. He was the son of Henry and Elizabeth Cottrell of West Villa, Oxford Road, Guiseley, Leeds.
Charles Ernest Knight lived in Uppingham, Rutlandshire and enlisted at Luton, Bedfordshire. Serving in the 5th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he died of wounds on 16 October 1915. He was buried in the Lilliers Communal Cemetery.
Fred Scott was born in Derby, lived in Radford, Nottinghamshire, and enlisted at Derby. Serving in the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters, he was killed in action on 13 September 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
Herbert Hawley was born in and enlisted at Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Serving as the C.S.M. of “C” Company, 7th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he died of wounds on 15 October 1916, aged 21 years. He was buried in St. Sever Cemetery, Rouen. He was the son of William and Sarah Ann Hawley of Dunisthorne Villa, Rollestone Road, Burton-on-Trent.
James Lucas was born in and enlisted at Leicester. Serving with the 1st Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he was killed in action on 15 September 1916, aged 32 years. He was buried in the Guards Cemetery, Lesboeufs. He was the son of Mrs Eliza Howe of 6 Chester Cottages, Chester Street, Leicester.
