1857. India. Grant Medical College, Bombay, bronze prize medal by B. Wyon, bust of Jamsetjer Jejeebhoy Bart, in traditional brimless Parsi hat, to left, reverse Jejeebhoy arms, 50mm (Pud. 857.2). Almost extremely fine (£30-40)

Though forming only a small percentage of the population of Bombay, because of their energy and flair for business, the Parsis exerted an influence out of all proportion to their numbers. Sir Jamsetjer Jejeebhoy was one of the most prominent among them, and notable for his public and charitable works, among which were the Jamsetjer Jejeebhoy School of Art and the Jamsetjer Jejeebhoy Hospital. He was responsible for the prize medal above. Knighted in1842 and given a Baronetcy in1857, he was the first Indian to receive this honour.
