James Hennessy was born in Liverpool on 16 December 1914. He enlisted into the South Lancashire Regiment in 1931 and then served in the Palestine Police, 1939-42. In 1942 he enlisted in the Union Defence Force. With them he served in Egypt, Palestine, Algiers and Italy. He was with the South African Air Force and in Egypt was with the S.A.A.F.B.D.; in Palestine, with 17 Squadron; in Algiers, with 28 Squadron, and in Italy with 31 Squadron. Returning then to the U.K. he appears to have resumed his service with the Regular Army, serving with the R.E.M.E. He was awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. in 1954. Sold with copied research.
