China 1900, 1 clasp, Relief of Pekin (Lieut H. Du C. Luard, R.N., H.M.S. Barfleur) very fine

Lieutenant Herbert du C. Luard was present at the attack on Tientsin between 10th and 25th June, 1900. He was specially commended in Admiral Seymour’s despatch and promoted Commander: ‘Lieutenant Luard, of H.M.S. “Barfleur”, who took on the duties of inspection of defences after Lieutenant Wright had been wounded, and the defence of the line - a very long and troublesome one, constantly “sniped” by night - has been most indefatigable.’ Sold with further research.
