Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Relief of Ladysmith, Laing’s Nek, Belfast (5461 Pte. R. Henderson, Gordon Highrs.) nearly extremely fine £400-450

Private R. Henderson was killed on 4 July 1901, when an Armoured Train carrying an escort of 22 men of the 2nd Gordons, commanded by Lieutenant Alexander Best, was blown up and halted by a mine shortly after leaving Naboomspruit in the Transvaal. Lieutenant Best and 7 men were killed, and 9 men wounded, one of whom died later. Sold with a copy of A. J. Henderson’s article Ambush at Naboomspruit.
