Pair: Second Lieutenant J. B. McKillop, Scottish Rifles, killed in action, 27 September 1918

James Bunting McKillop was born in Oban on 15 July 1879. He was educated at Oban High School and Glasgow University. Living in Johannesburg and a Tobacconist by occupation, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 5 January 1916, as a Sergeant in the South African Scottish Regiment. He was serving in the 4th South African Infantry when he applied for admission to an officer cadet unit. He had previously served as Trooper for 2 years 9 months in the Scottish Horse Volunteers, 1 year in the Transvaal Scottish Volunteers and 1 year in the Imperial Light Horse. He was commissioned into the 5th Battalion Scottish Rifles on 31 July 1918. 2nd Lieutenant McKillop was killed in action on 27 September 1918 during the attack on the Canal du Nord. He was buried in the Moeuvres British Cemetery. He was the husband of Katrine Alice McKillop of Johannesburg. Sold with a quantity of copied service papers, war diary extracts and other research.
