R.); contained in card box of issue; together with a small pocket diary for 1917, with some sparse short entries; and a gold open locket inset with pearls and turquoise and containing a hand-coloured photograph of recipient, the locket with minor damage, otherwise nearly extremely fine (3) £140-180

Diary entries include, 4 March 1917: We captured 3 lines of trenches in the district of Bouchausnes, 15 March 1917: We made a night raid and occupied the German front line, 18 April 1917: We tried for the village of Gonnolieu but failed for heavy machine gun fire, 20 April 1917: Went out on night patrol, 21 April 1917: We captured the village of Gonnolieu and took 100 prisoners. Fred Wisby was killed on the 21st, 31 July 1917: We made an attack on the German trenches where I was wounded, 1 August 1917: No. 11 General Hospital, 5 August 1917: Went under an operation, 11 August 1917: Left France for England, 7 November 1917: Went to Ireland at a place called Cork.
