George Andrew Clark was born on 12 June 1882, the son of Richard Clark, D.L., J.P. of 20 Learmouth Terrace, Edinburgh. He was educated at the Edinburgh Academy, 1888-1892, and Fettes College, 1896-1900, and played rugby for the latter. He received a commission in the Militia on 15 August 1900, being gazetted to the 3rd (Militia) Battalion Seaforth Highlanders. He was granted a commission in the Regular Army as a 2nd Lieutenant on 30 April 1902 and was gazetted to the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He served in the Boer War and was then posted to India during 1905-06. He retired from the Army in July 1906 and died on 30 July 1910.
