Royal Navy officer’s presentation sword 1805 pattern for the rank of commander dated 1819, the 82cm blued and gilt blade decorated with crowned cypher royal arms and foliage retaining approx 40% of its original finish, copper-gilt hilt with stirrup knucklebow pommel in the form of a cast and chased lions head the mane flowing down the faceted backstrap, fluted ferrule with twisted rope decoration the langet engraved with an anchor, ribbed ivory grip bound with copper wire, complete with its black leather scabbard with three copper-gilt mounts the locket finely engraved in contempory script with the presentation inscription ‘Presented by Captn. Samuel Warren CB of HMS Bulwark to Edward William Corry Astley Esq. on his promotion from 1st. Lieutenant of that ship to the rank of Commander August 1819’ overall in good condition copper-gilt mounts retaining almost all orignal finish although rather dirty minor chips to ivory grip leather of scabbard a little worn and stitching fragile, condition of blade as noted above £600-800
