(Civil) Member’s 1st type breast badge, hallmarked London 1917; The Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Serving Brother’s breast badge, silver and enamels; India General Service 1895-1902, 1 clasp Punjab Frontier 1897-98 (6858 Color Sergt.R. J. Hilliar, 3d Bn. Rif. Bde.); Army L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (6858 Clr.-Serjt., Rifle Brigade); Voluntary Medical Services Medal, with 2 extra service bars (Robert J. Hilliar), together with B.R.C.S. war service medal 1914-18 in named card box of issue, very fine or better (6) £450-500
M.B.E. London Gazette 7 June 1918: ‘Robert James Hilliar, Esq., in charge of Red Cross Ambulance and Transport Work, Worcestershire.’
Sold with various extracts from The Rifle Brigade Chronicle which confirm his appointment as Sergeant-Major of the Mounted Infantry School, Fatihgarh, in 1901, and award of the L.S. & G.C. medal in 1903. Also two copies of group photographs of shooting teams in India in 1897 which include Hilliar.
