John Robert Stuart was born in Inverness on 18 March 1855. Qualifying as a M.B., he was appointed Surgeon, afterwards, Surgeon-Captain in February 1883 and Surgeon-Major in February 1895. After serving in Sudan, he attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in February 1903, being placed on Retired Pay in March 1910.
