Rifleman Thomas Chivers was killed in action at Delhi on 2 August 1857, as described in the regimental history: ‘During the forenoon of the following day [2nd August] Colour-Sergeant A. Williamson fell shot through the head, and Rifleman T. Chivers, a young soldier, had his hand taken off by a round shot and died from the shock.’
