The Order of St. John of Jerusalem, a rare lady’s shoulder badge from the period 1871-1888, 51 x 31mm, gold and enamel, the reverse of the crown with Prince of Wales feathers cartouche, in its Phillips Bros. & Son, Art Goldsmiths, 23 Cockspur St., London, dark red morocco case of issue, nearly extremely fine and rare £300-400

From 1871 to 1888 badges of the Order of St John comprised an eight-pointed cross in white enamel, surmounted by a sovereign crown, without the usual embellishment of lions and unicorns between the arms. In 1888 the embellishment was restored to both star and badge.
