William Taylor was appointed as Hospital Mate on 26 March 1795, and as Assistant Surgeon to the 10th Dragoons in March 1797, becoming Surgeon to the same regiment in August 1803. He transferred to the Staff in June 1811 and was appointed Deputy Inspector of Hospitals on 25 July 1811. He served with the Medical Staff in the Peninsula in 1813 and 1814, and at Waterloo in 1815, where he was the most senior medical officer present after the Inspector of Hospitals himself, Sir J. R. Grant, M.D. Taylor died at Turnham Green on 9 January 1820.
