Leonard Jacob Naish was born in Camberwell, London and enlisted at London in 1907. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 8 September 1914, and was killed in action on 9 August 1915 (Battle of Hooge), aged 22 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of George and Maria Naish of 44 Foreign Street, Camberwell.
