David Hilton Thompson was born in South Shields in 1880. He enlisted in to the 4th Battalion Durham Light Infantry on 31 March 1898 and served with them in South Africa, being awarded the Queen’s Medal with one clasp and the King’s Medal with two. He was discharged in 1904 after which he was employed in the Merchant Navy and as a Fireman and Fitter. Sold with original Discharge Certificate; Militiaman’s Small Book and Mercantile Marine Record Book.
