Athlete, 1907, a silver award plaque by Prof. R. Tait McKenzie for the [New York] P[ublic] S[chool] A[thletic] L[eague], naked male athlete walking left, carrying winged Victory, rev. elementary schools basketball championships, borough of queens, 115 lbs class, 1922-23, 42 x 23mm (Kozar –; cf. BDM VIII, 11); International Exposition, Chicago, 1933, a bronze Art Deco medal by E.R. Zettler, male nude spanning a symbolic bridge, rev. plan of Chicago, A CENTURY OF PROGRESS, etc, 57mm (cf. DNW 47, 1047) [2]. First very fine with loop for suspension, a rare early medallic work by this artist, second extremely fine (£40-60)
First only illustrated. The obverse design is a modification of Tait McKenzie’s 1903 bronze study, A college athlete taking the grip-strength test, now in the J. William White collection at the University of Pennsylvania (Kozar, p.46)
