Private Edward Thompson was severely wounded, by a gunshot in the back, during the attack on the Dargai Heights, 20 October 1897. The Dorsets took a prominent part in the storming of Dargai, suffering quite severe casualties. Private S. Vickery of the Dorsets, won the Victoria Cross on this occasion.
